I was heading out of @cityofwhiterock / @cityofwhiterockbc towards @starbuckscanada in the @thecityofsurrey when I glanced to my left and saw this abandoned basketball sitting on the street corner of Johnston Street and North Bluff Road. The light turned green, leaving me with no time to throw my SUV into park to snap a few quick shots with my smartphone. So heading along 152 Street, I decided to turn around in the parking lot of the @semiahmooshopping centre, and headed southbound again to pull into the Central Plaza Shopping Centre parking lot where I pulled into an empty slot. I was soon walking back up Johnston and proceeded to shoot some shots with my smartphone of this lonely basketball just sitting there in the shadows, sadly being ignored by everyone passing by.
It was a fun moment to photograph, and I’m happy with the small series I’m posting here. I’m curious as to how the ball ended up here: was it dropped by accident by a child in a car heading home? Or abandoned by some kid who had been bullied today? Or maybe it was stollen from a shop on a dare… or left there by one person for another person running late to meet up. So many possible reasons, as the single one will elude me for the rest of my lifetime.
Used the in-camera Multiple Exposure setting on the Sony A7Rii to create this #image of a #overgrown #field overlaid with a shot of the town-home development that is next to it in South Surrey, British Columbia, Canada.
A cropped version of this photo is also posted to my Flickr and Instagram accounts.
February 21, 2019. The blurred movement of the affluent hustle and bustle of Whistler, British Columbia in February 2019, just three hours north of Vancouver’s impoverished Downtown East side.
February 23, 2019. Standing on Gore Avenue, looking south from Cordova Street in Vancouver’s Downtown East Side, this daytime long exposure again blurs the people walking on the sidewalks and blurs a truck that passed through the frame to stop for a moment - eerily reminiscent of the kind of truck infamous serial killer Robert Pickton might have driven as he prowled the streets looking for his next victim.
"overdevelopments" was my final project for Kwantlen Polytechnic University's Fine Arts 3170: Advanced Film Photography as taught by Vancouer artist Kira Wu.

My third project for Kwantlen Polytechnic University's Fine Arts 3170: Advanced Film Photography as taught by Vancouer artist Kira Wu. My inspiration for this project was drawn from research into the artwork of Canadian photographer Edward Burtynsky. Like Burtynsky, I did my best to shoot from a rather high location, which would allow the user to look down and into what surrounds them.
The image was shot using Efke R25 (ISO 25) black and white film on a Mamiya RZ67 with a 65mm lens. The negative was then scanned to computer using an Epson V750-M photo scanner.

This series explored the devastation of a large swath of land that was clear-cut for an industrial retail development on 32nd Avenue in Surrey, British Columbia. This once rural area was once home to many trees, old farmland and homes. Day by day, the rural landscape of Metro Vancouver is quickly being paved over with townhomes, retail as well as light and heavy industry.
Each image was created by combining three vertical images into a vertical panorama, cropped square. Before the vertical panorama was created however, each of the three images were created using photographs taken at different exposures in order to capture more detail in the final image from the location itself.
