"self-cleaning person" performance art
May 30, 2013
I did this performance art piece as part of Kwantlen Polytechnic University's Fine Arts 3202: Special Topics in Studio Arts - Art in Context course, as taught by Vancouver artist Ana Black. To prepare for this piece, each student had to bring a mystery bag filled with items that would be given to another classmate who would then have to create a 3-5 minute performance piece using the materials found inside the mystery bag. I ended up with cotton swabs, which I used one by one to slowly and meticulously clean every inch of my face, holding the used swabs in my mouth once I was finished with them, or for the ones I used to clean my ears, leaving them in my ears.
